How to pass your driving test in 4 easy steps

Your journey to passing your test

The process of getting a provisional permit is pretty easy. As long as you can read the number plate of a car parked 20 metres away and are aged 15 years and 9 months or above, you can apply for it. You can learn to drive a car and take your test at 17.

The following are 4 easy steps to getting that much-wanted pass:

Step 1: Get your provisional

Cost: £34; Time: 1 week

Apply online on the DVSA website: Remember that you will need to provide originals for:

  1. an identity document or a valid UK biometric passport. The identity document can be a current and valid foreign passport, Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) issued in the UK, a travel document or EU national identity card
  2. addresses where you’ve lived over the last 3 years
  3. your National Insurance number if you know it

You’ll get a confirmation email from DVLA after you’ve applied. Your provisional should arrive within one week if you apply online. It may take longer if DVLA needs to make additional checks.
